Gary Kushner | Farallon | 450 Post Street San Francisco, CA (415) 956-6969 | Seafood | Generally very good food. Can’t say I’ve never had a fair meal but most are very good to excellent. The restaurant has an underwater theme that is fun and has a good staff. A very good place to bring people. |
Gary Kushner | Aqua | 252 California
Street San Francisco, CA Phone: 415-956-9662 (reservations recommended |
Seafood / French | Generally very good food. Consistent, very ‘cala’. A good safe bet. Good for business lunch. |
Gary Kushner | Enrico's Sidewalk Café | 504 Broadway San Francisco, CA 94133 4159826223 |
Don’t go for the food and don’t sit inside. However, it can be fun to sit on the sidewalk and watch Broadway go by.
Gary Kushner | Scoma’s | Pier 47 on Al
Scoma Way San Francisco, CA 94133 Toll free: (800) 644-5852 Local: (415) 771-4383 |
Seafood | Very good food in Fisherman’s Warf—possibly the only good food. You (generally) can’t make reservations so if you’re going during meal times it is best to show up and put your name on the wait list and then get a drink or enjoy the view for a little while. It’s about 1/4 locals which for fisherman’s warf is unheard of. I’ve brought many visitors here and they always like it. |
Gary Kushner | Postrio | 545 Post St San Francisco, CA 94102 (415) 776-7825 San Francisco, CA |
Postrio serves contemporary American Cuisine. It is a daily changing menu focusing on fish, meats and produce from small, local bay area farms. Everything is made in-house including all of our bread, pastas, and pastries. We also smoke our own salmon, sturgeon and meats. A team of butchers take care of all our cuts of meat and fish. | One of Puck’s many restaurants. I’ve never been, but Kristine says the food and service is very good. |
Gary Kushner | Jeanty at Jacks | 615 Sacramento
St San Francisco, CA 94111 (415) 693-0941 San Francisco, CA |
Lunch: Hamburgers, Sandwiches, Salads Dinners: Steak, | Another from Kristine. She really likes this one for lunch. |
Gary Kushner | Alfred’s Steak House | 659 Merchant St. San Francisco, CA 94111 (415) 781-7058 San Francisco, CA |
Steaks, Salads, Pasta, Lamb, some Seafood | A very old fashioned steak house, red booths and waiters in white coats. There is probably better, but I like the feel of this one and so do most people I bring. |
Gary Kushner | One Market | 1 Market Street San Francisco, CA 94105 Tel (415) 777-5577 Bqts (415) 777-2233 San Francisco, CA |
Seafood, Salad, Sandwiches, Hamburgers | Great location right by the ferry building. Generally the food is just very good, but they served me the best sautéed scallops I’ve had in California. |
Gary Kushner | Top of the Hyatt Regency | 5 Embarcadero Center, California, USA 94111 Tel: +1 415 788 1234 San Francisco, CA | 13 Views
cocktail bar offers 13 different views of adjacent Justin Herman
Plaza and the Embarcadero waterfront. The bar features Hyatt San
Francisco's signature martinis, specialty cocktails, and a full menu
that would tantalize any taste buds. |
Nothing special
except they have a rotating bar on the top floor.
Get a couple of ok drinks right after sundown and make sure
to get a table by the window. |
Gary Kushner | Carnelian Room | 555 California
Street, 52nd Floor San Francisco, CA 94104 Tel: (415) 433-7500 San Francisco, CA |
Seafood, Pasta, Salads,Steak, Duck | On the top of BofA building it is the highest restaurant in San Francisco and the views are excellent. I’ve heard mixed things on the food from amazing to mediocre. I’ve had drinks there and have enjoyed the view. |
Gary Kushner | The Dining Room | 600 Stockton St San Francisco, CA 94108 (415) 773-6168 San Francisco, CA |
Seafood, Steak, Duck | The restaurant
at the ritz. I knew a chef
there but still haven’t gone.
I hear it is very good though.
It’s on my list. |
Gary Kushner | Palomino | 345 Spear Street San Francisco, CA 94105 Phone:(415) 512-7400 |
European-inspired regional American Cuisine | It’s a mid-priced restaurant and I think the food is excellent and very consistent for its class. It’s easy and casual—won’t knock your socks off but I like it. |
Gary Kushner | Rubicon | 558 Sacramento
St San Francisco, CA 94111 (415) 434-4100 San Francisco, CA |
Salads, Seafood, Lamb | The restaurant Williams, Coppola, and de Niro started. Another restaurant I like maybe more than it deserves. I’ve had excellent meals and merely good meals, but it is a friendly restaurant and you’ll probably go away happy. |
Gary Kushner | The House | 1230 Grant Ave San Francisco, CA 94133 (415) 986-8612 San Francisco, CA |
There are two of them. Go to the one in the inner sunset not the newer one in north beach. I used to really like it, but then it started to go down hill. I’ve been back once recently and I think they’ve picked it up again. Nice wine selection and appetizers.
Gary Kushner | Fleur de Lys | 777 Sutter Street San Francisco, CA | French food, Vegetarian cuisine | Supposed to be one of the top three or four restaurants in the bay area. I’ve never been – not sure why. |
Gary Kushner | Restaurant Gary Danko | 800 N Point St San Francisco, CA 94109 (415) 749-2060 San Francisco, CA |
Seafood, large selection of wine | Gary Danko used to be my neighbor and I still haven’t gone. Widely considered to be the best restaurant in San Francisco. It’s next on my list. |
Gary Kushner | French Laundry | 6640 Washington
Street Yountville, CA 94599 |
My favorite restaurant in the whole world. Go if you at all can. Expect to spend three plus hours. Only get the tasting menu.
Gary Kushner | Mamas | 1701 Stockton St San Francisco, CA 94133 (415) 362-6421 |
Eggs, Omelets, French Toast, Pancakes,Sandwiches, Salads, Burgers | The best breakfast place in San Francisco. Go right when they open or right before they close to avoid a long line. I’ve had a few things that were merely good, but most of the time it’s something you’ll remember for a long time. |
Gary Kushner | Top of the Mark | 999 California
St San Francisco, CA 94108 (415) 616-6916 San Francisco, CA |
Lunch: Salads, soups, sandwiches Dinner Duck, Lamb, Seafood | Only tourists. The music can be all right, but mostly go because everyone does once. Truly, it’s a requirement. I don’t know why. The views are nice enough. |
Gary Kushner | Boulevard | 1 Mission St San Francisco, CA 94105 (415) 543-6084 San Francisco, CA |
Seafood, Salads, Duck, Lamb | Inexpensive, unpretentious, very nice semi-romantic French food. I’m a regular. |
Gary Kushner | Le Charm | 315 5th St San Francisco, CA 94107 (415) 546-6128 San Francisco, CA |
French food, Seafood, Salads, Steaks | They converted an indoor pool into a tiki lounge. Go to see the same band for the last 10 years sing in the middle of the pool. |
Gary Kushner | The Tonga room at the Fairmont | 950 Mason St San Francisco, CA 94108 (415) 772-5278 San Francisco, CA |
Seafood, Steak, Chicken, Ribs | A place to see Lady’s Who Lunch lunch. If you’re in the right mood it can be lots of fun in a voyeuristic sort of way. |
Gary Kushner | Neiman Marcus for Lunch | 150 Stockton St.
(at Geary), San Francisco Phone:(415) 362-4777 Union Square, San Francisco, CA |
Contemporary
American Fine Dining |
They have couches built for two and serve expensive and nice drinks. It’s a lobby of a hotel but it can be cozy and intimate while still being around lots of people. They also a have a very popular bar that I find too loud and a Cuban Restaurant that is supposed to be very good. One warning is that because the Clift Hotel is hip and cool the door is not market at all with a name or address. |
Gary Kushner | Cliff Hotel Lobby (“The Living Room”) | 10 Mark Lane PH 415.788.7152 San Francisco, CA |
495 Geary Street San Francisco, California 94102 Tel. 415 775 4700 |
Two nice bars around the downtown area good at night. |
