Reporting period - This report covers work completed March 2003 - May 2003
Accomplishments
Work on the scalable and secure peer-to-peer information sharing tool project focused on the initial prototype implementation.
As part of the general resource discovery we have continued work on designing and implementing a messaging framework. Some specific accomplishments include:On the information-sharing portion of the project, we have continued to work on a graphical user interface and the application logic. We have added the following functionality to the application and interface:
- developed an HTTPS service
- incorporated the Jakarta Commons Logging facility into the system, thus allowing the user to specify logging levels and implementations at runtime
- ability to perform an advanced search by allowing the user to search by file name, description, file size, or a combination of these
- enhanced the management of information in the local database
- information on the selected item(s) is displayed
- users have the ability to edit the description of item(s)
- changed application management of local information such that it is subscriber-based, i.e. the local file system is periodically checked for the subscribed items (files and directories) - any changes are automatically reflected in the local information view and the local database
We have begun pre-release user testing. We have a handful of users evaluating the system and providing feedback.
Future Plans (next quarter)
- continue designing the security infrastructure and begin adding initial security mechanisms to the implementation
- enhance the user interface and application functionality based on feedback from initial users
- initial software release (June/July 2003)
